Stainless steel polishing

As revealed by the crystal structure of black corundum, this abrasive is particularly well suited for surface polishing of a wide range of workpieces. In practice, black corundum is commonly used to polish bamboo and wood, glass, copper–aluminum alloys, and hardware tools—especially stainless steel components. When polishing stainless steel with black corundum, the workpiece surface is less prone to scorching, and the finished surface exhibits the characteristic deep, uniform, and lustrous sheen of stainless steel. By contrast, using other abrasives often leads to surface burning, resulting in localized darkening or bluing that becomes more pronounced over time, giving the workpiece an aged, uneven appearance.
