Plated White Corundum

Plated white corundum is a novel corundum material produced by deeply processing high‑quality white corundum as the raw material. After calcination, a coating of a specific material is applied to the abrasive surface using a controlled process. This approach retains the sharpness of white corundum while enhancing its toughness, eliminating dark streaks within the abrasive grains, and improving its resistance to breakage.     The two images above show the microstructural morphology of coated white corundum, captured under a metallographic microscope at different magnifications. In the images, the grayish-white areas correspond to α‑Al₂O₃ crystals, while the black regions represent porosity.

    As revealed by the microstructural image of the coated white corundum, the α‑Al₂O₃ crystallites that contribute most to the abrasive action have sizes ranging from approximately 100 μm to over 300 μm. With α‑Al₂O₃ as its principal constituent, the coated white corundum exhibits high hardness and exceptional sharpness.
