Black corundum is a gray‑black crystalline material produced by high‑temperature smelting in an electric arc furnace, using either high‑iron bauxite or high‑aluminum bauxite combined with high‑aluminum iron ore, followed by cooling. It features α‑Al₂O₃ and ferrospinel as the dominant mineral phases and exhibits moderate hardness, excellent self‑sharpening properties, low grinding heat generation, and resistance to surface burn on workpieces.

Calcined Brown Corundum
Calcined brown corundum is a specialized abrasive produced by subjecting conventional brown corundum to high‑temperature treatment. Following this specific calcination process, impurities within the abrasive are either precipitated or volatilized, resulting in a purer material with a rougher particle surface, which significantly enhances its hydrophilicity. At the same time, microcracks generated during crushing are healed, further improving the abrasive’s toughness and strength. Calcined brown corundum exhibits an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent hydrophilicity, outstanding toughness, and high mechanical strength; sintered abrasives made from it display a deep blue color after firing, remain free of network‑like cracks, and show no rust spots.
